Info

Welcome to the Onahan PTO. We're excited about another geat school year! Onahan is a busy and wonderful place we want you to be informed and get involved .

Getting school and PTO information throughout the school year comes in many forms:
  • PTO meetings will be held on the second Tuesday of the month, alternating 3:00 and 5:45 pm. It’s one of the best ways to stay informed and to get involved with your child’s education.
  • Weekly emails- we will send weekly emails with upcoming school information, PTO activities and community news. Subscribe to this email by notifying us at onahanpta@sbcglobal.net.
  • Online-Check this site for PTO-related information and the school website is www.onahanschool.org. These sites are regularly updated with important information, upcoming events, forms, volunteer opportunities and committee chair contact information.
  • Parent involvement at Onahan is strong and highly encouraged. Visit our volunteering page for more information and how to sign up.

What is a PTO?
A Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is a formal organization that consists of parents, teachers, and school staff. The organization's goals may vary from organization to organization, but essentially the goals include volunteerism of parents, encouragement of teachers and students, community involvement, and welfare of students and families.

Where does PTO money go?
PTO dues are $15 per family per year which help fund PTO programs and activities such as the Back to School Movie Night, Halloween Party, Spring Assembly, Teacher Appreciation Week and Luncheons, Junior High Dance, Junior Olympics, End-of-the-Year Picnic, Graduation Celebrations, and other fun activities that the children enjoy every year. Annual events such as Walkathon, Holiday Shop, and Parents Night Out help raise money as well. Most of the fundraising dollars are earmarked for large purchases for Onahan (determined on an as needed basis), as well as to fund the operational expenses of the PTO. A portion of the money raised is held in order to have money to fund the start up events each year. With the money we have raised from various events, the PTO has been able to purchase the running track in the back lot, and just this year the PTO purchased new technology for all of the classrooms. The technology consisted of a LCD projector in each classroom as well as an Elmo brand document camera. The document camera replaces the old overhead projectors. Teachers no longer need to print anything on transparencies. They can place a book, an assignment, or any object under the lamp and project it directly onto the wall, ceiling or white board. The Elmo’s also have the ability to project information right from the internet to further backup the teachers lessons. The feedback we have received from this purchase has been extremely positive. Some teachers have stated that it changed the way they teach!
